 Business Meeting

July 7, 2015

 Meeting called to order at 5:30 PM at Sandhill Land & Property. Members Pam Eaton, Robin Bergman,  Maureen Hess, Carolyn Green, Darla Mulinex, Joe Patrulick, Jim Rucker, Board Members Jean Hess, Lisa Johnson, Jordan Heuther, Retail Committee members Rachael Lambley, Courtney Ostrander and Director Bea Lou Hardin were in attendance.

Office Report – June 2015

The Office has been busy with visitors to our area and sales and sales have been good in the Store. We have had visitors from Colorado, Missouri, Idaho, Eastern Nebraska, Minnesota, New York, Georgia, Kansas, Switzerland, Mane, Check republic, Indiana, Florida, Iowa, and Norway. We have had our first Historical Route 20 Trekkers! They were from Mane and are traveling Highway 20 the full length, Bryan Farr told them that they MUST stop in Gordon so they did and it was great to visit with them.

We have had a request for information about the Fair and Willow Tree. The Ambassadors are handling the Office with ease and I thank them for all they do. We welcome our new Ambassadors, Marlis Roth, Margret Nelson, Jean Hess & Rich Hoffman. They join Ambassadors, Sally Hatch, Nancy Russell, Berny & Merna Ganshert and Robin Bergman. We nearly have a full crew but can always use more Ambassadors, so if you want to volunteer please do!

  June 28th, I will be available only by phone for the most part as Jerry will be having surgery and I need to play nurse!  I have every faith that all of you will carry on and keep the Office and store running and I thank you all for your commitment to YOUR Chamber.

The Chamber Office MUST be open Monday through Saturday all summer. Ambassadors are needed for either ½ days or full days. We will need to fill Monday, Friday and Saturday at least till 1 PM.

It is not a “labor intensive” job, we just need Ambassadors to answer the phone and keep the door open to members and visitors, answer questions and give directions and make sales. If you, or any of your friends that would be able to give a few hours and would like to become an Ambassador for the Gordon Chamber, please let Bea Lou know- 282.0730

The Office Report and financial Report were given, Courtney Ostrander made the motion to accept the reports, second by Maureen Hess. Motion passed

Bea Lou presented the members with an estimate on printing new Gordon Brochures for Strategy New Media and asked if anyone else would like to give an estimate for updating and printing the brochures. We are nearly out of them. Jordan Heuther stated he would like to put in a bid. Both bids will be presented at next month’s meeting and a decision will be made. We will also be helping Rushville fill their welcome bags for the Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament with brochures and the same things we put I our Welcome bags. It is wonderful to see the two communities working together.

The main topic of the meeting was the Sheridan County Fair Parade on July 25th at 10:00 A.M. Volunteers to help line up the Parade are needed between 8A.M. ad 9:50 A.M. Lisa Johnson, Robin Bergman and possibly Kristi Petersen volunteered. We still need more to help. Judges this year will be Jean Hess, Patty Faulk, & Mike Cookston; the announcer is Jim Lambley, the platform will again be provided by Homestead Lumber. The American Legion and Legion Riders will lead the Parade with Melody Strasburger singing again this year. The Pow Wow performers will stop at Main and 2nd to perform.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place overall float was discussed. Jean Hess made the motion that 1st prize be $100.00, 2nd $50.00 & 3rd $25.00 with Honorable mention certificates as needed. Lisa Johnson second. Motion carried.

Jim Rucker wanted to know what has happened to the street music and if the speaker by True Value could be fixed. Bea Lou said it was her fault that the music has not been playing as she has not been around to turn it on and she would ask the City if they could fix that speaker as the system belong to the City.

Jordan Heuther reported that the Theater will be opening soon as the group has received a grant. Jean Hess reported that the Bottled Water Plant will also be opening in another month.

Bea Lou suggested that all our retailer have a “Back to School” or “School Days” sidewalk sale August 20 & 21. It was note that Sandhills Alive Music Festival is August 22 in the City Park.

Rachel Lambley reported there is progress with the plans for the Harvest Festival. We are waiting on the final approval for closing off 2 blocks of Main Street on Saturday October 24th.

 Bea Lou reminded the members we have lost Executive Board Member Carol Langer, as she has moved to North Dakota. Carol has been a great asset to the Chamber, serving on the Retail Committee, Executive Board and working as an Ambassador at the Chamber Office and Store. She will be missed by all.

A new Board member needs to be found as well as a Retail Committee member. Bea Lou stated she has someone in mind as a Board Member but would not submit that name until the members have the opportunity to submit names. Bea Lou state that in the beginning the Chamber was somewhat unorganized and therefore Retail Tourism and Board member were picked for the membership. Now the Chamber has a foundation to grow from, there for members need to step up and build upon that foundation. Please call the Chamber Office with your suggestions or nominations for Executive Board Member. Anyone wishing to work with the Retail Committee call the Chamber Office or Rachael Lambley, Courtney Ostrander, Sherri Cookston or Robin Bergman.

Joe Kirk of Kirks Repair is in the process of joining the Chamber. We are excited to welcome Joe and his business to the Chamber Family.

 Rachael Lambley made the motion to adjourn at 6:20 P.M., Jean Hess second the motion. Motion passed.

 The next Meeting will be held Tuesday August 4th. The meeting place will be announced at a later date.
