Office Report – July 2015

The Office has been busy with visitors to our area and sales have been good in the Store. We have had visitors from Antwerp Belgium; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Lincoln, Nebraska; Bayard, Nebraska; Union, Oregon; Hastings, Minnesota; Lakewood, California; and Phoenix, Arizona. Everyone has been excited to learn that Highway 20 is the longest highway in the United States and have been very complimentary about our little town and what we have to offer!

The Ambassadors are handling the Office with ease and I thank them for all they do. The sale of the Fair & Carnival tickets went very well. We nearly have a full crew but can always use more Ambassadors, so if you want to volunteer please do! The Chamber Office MUST be open Monday through Saturday all summer. Ambassadors are needed for either ½ days or full days. We will need to fill Monday, Friday and Saturday at least till 1 PM.

It is not a “labor intensive” job, we just need Ambassadors to answer the phone and keep the door open to members and visitors, answer questions and give directions and make sales. If you, or any of your friends that would be able to give a few hours and would like to become an Ambassador for the Gordon Chamber, please let Bea Lou know- 282.0730

The Fair Parade went off well with the help of Christi Petersen, Lisa Johnson, Chris Hardin, Robin Bergman, Mike Shald, Barb Shald, Jim & Daneen Lambley, Melody Strasburger, Mike Cookston, Jean Hess, & Candy Goodrich.

The 1st Place Prize went to The Pow Wow Dancers, 2nd to The American Legion with the Legion Riders getting an Honorable Mention, 3rd to the First National Bank. Honorable Mention Certificates went to Gordon Villa,
Green Valley 4-H, Lee’s Repair, Gordon Rushville Band, and the Shriners Club.

The Office Report and financial Report were given, Pastor Elzroth made the motion to accept the reports, second by Jean Hess. Motion passed.

The matter of a new member to the Chamber Executive Board was taken up. There were two Ladies that had volunteered to serve. The membership was asked to vote for either Shelly Beguin or Rachael Lambley. The members present also voted and the votes were tallied. The vote was tied and Mike Shad requested that he be allowed to step down form the Executive Board so that both ladies could serve as he felt that Shelly and Racheal would be a tremendous asset to the Chamber Board. Therefore, both Rachael and Shelly will be serving on the Executive Board.

Bea Lou presented the members with two estimates for printing new Gordon Brochures. After discussion and consideration the bid for the project was given to Strategy New Media. Jean Hess made the motion to accept the bid for the Gordon Brochures for Strategy New Media and Pastor Elzroth second the motion. Motion passed.

Joe Patrulick, from Viaero had requested consideration to change our Phone carrier. Joe was not present so the matter was tabled until the September meeting and then Joe can explain his proposal.

The Harvest Festival is in the planning stages and members will be hearing more soon. The State has allowed us to close off the two blocks of Main Street for the Festival. We thank them and are very excited to have the two blocks free of traffic for safety reasons. Rich reported on the County Tourism board meetings. It was brought up the County Tourism board could join our Chamber or support this office in some way.

Rachael Lambley made the motion to adjourn at 6:20 P.M., Lisa Johnson second the motion. Motion passed.

The next Meeting will be held Tuesday September 1st at the Chamber Office.
