Business Meeting

Meeting called to order at 5:30 PM at Joe’s Wireless. Members Carolyn Green, Rich Hoffman, Pastor Elzroth, Maureen Hess, City Manager Jacob Sheridan, Joe Patrulick, Pam Eaton, Kathy Dohse, Jan Grover, Ruby Wolkins, Diana Acosta, Bill Thornton, Board Members Jean Hess, Rachael Lambley (Retail Committee member), and Director Bea Lou Hardin were in attendance.

Office Report – September 2015
We have had visitors from Louisiana, Alliance, Scottsbluff and Sidney. The Chamber hosted the Western Nebraska Development Network on September 16th. A wealth of information and ideas for economic development was gained and it is good to know there is help out there.
Your retail committee is in full swing planning the Harvest Festival in October! We will need members to step up and volunteer to help out with all the great activities planned for the Harvest Festival. If you are able to volunteer for Saturday, October 24th, PLEASE contact Rachael Lambley at 308.282.2500.
The Chamber Store/Visitors Center has been closed for several days while the front of the building is being repaired. Bea Lou has been checking the phone and returning calls as needed, giving the Ambassadors well deserved time off!
Bea Lou will be out of the office and town October 8th. If you need anything that the Ambassadors cannot provide just call her at 360.2993 or 282.0562.
The Ambassadors are handling the Office with ease and I thank them for all they do. We nearly have a full crew but can always use more Ambassadors, so if you want to volunteer please do! The Chamber Office has begun its winter hours but MUST be open Monday through Friday. Ambassadors are needed for either ½ days or full days. We will need to fill Monday, Friday.
It is not a “labor intensive” job, we just need Ambassadors to answer the phone and keep the door open to members and visitors, answer questions and give directions and make sales. If you, or any of your friends that would be able to give a few hours and would like to become an Ambassador for the Gordon Chamber, please let Bea Lou know- 282.0730

The Office Report and financial Report were given, Rachel Lambley made the motion to accept the Office & Financial Reports, motion was second by Rich Hoffman. Motion passed.

Rachael gave the group the plans for the harvest Festival and it is impressive! Friday, October 23 the Chamber will be having a soup supper from 4PM until we run out of soup, at Chamberlain Pier Funeral home, this is a free will donation supper. Business are encouraged to have specials and stay open just a little longer so the folks coming to supper can shop your stores. We are starting earlier this year as it is more convenient for the elderly and there is a Football game that night.
Saturday, October 24th the two blocks of Main Street will be blocked off. Rachel and her Retail Committee have put out a brochure that gives the times and events of the Harvest Festival. Super Foods, Bomgaars, Stockmen’s Drug, KSDZ Radio, Car Quest, Co Op and more have made major contributions to this Festival. Things that will be happening are: Show & Shine car show, Creeper race, Pumpkin Chucking, paint pumpkin’s, Skillet Toss for the ladies, Grillers Challenge, Store and residential decorating contest, a maze, kiddie tractor pull, costume contest, face painting, Wine Tasting, Pumpkin Pond, Leaf Grab, Chalk drawing, Pumpkin Bowling and more.
Your Retail Committee has put a tremendous amount of work into The Harvest Festival just to help bring people to town for the benefit of our Business. PLEASE STAY OPEN SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24th until at least 4PM to allow Festival goers a chance to shop YOUR stores. IF YOU DO NOT STAY OPEN DURNING THE HARVEST FESTIVAL, YOUR RETAIL COMMITTEE HAS WORKED AND STRESSED OVER THIS PROMOTION FOR NOTHING! SHOW THEM YOU’RE APPRECIATION BY PARTICPATING AND ENJOYING THE FRUITS OF THEIR LABOR!
Volunteers are still needed to help with some of the Festival Activities so PLEASE call Rachael 282-2500 or the Chamber Office 282-0730 if you can help! If you are entering the Grillers Challenge or entering in the Home Decorating or Store decorating contest PLEASE call the Chamber and let us know where you are!!!

Pastor Elzroth reported the Ministerial Association has money to assist transients in need but there is nowhere to hose them over night. Anyone with suggestions please contact any of the ministers in town. It was suggested that possibly NAPSAC would be able to accommodate the Ministerial Association.
Monday, October 12th the Blood Drive will be at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
November 18th the Mobil Food Pantry will again be at the American legion.

Rachel Lambley made the motion to adjourn at 7:00 PM, Ruby Wolkins second. Motion Passed.

November meeting will be November 3rd at Hinn’s Fine Furnishing.
