Office Report – April 2015
The Office has been a busy place again this month. Visitor are starting to arrive. Folks from Georgia and Alaska stopped in to see us. By all reports the spring “Junkers Jaunt” went well for the whole community and everyone is looking forward to next year! The Marketing seminar for Members and guests went very well. Mr. Bauer brought to light a lot of points that we tend to forget or sluff off in our busy days. He gave us a lot of great tips on how to generate business and keep old customers and generate new customers.
We had a great turnout for the unveiling and dedication of our two Historic US Route 20 signs on the 23rd and then for the Ribbon Cutting at Whole Health, our newest business. Meg has such a beautiful shop and after learning a little about her service I would really like to know more. I think her services would be a wonderful way to ease the stress of everyday life!
The Office is receiving calls from travelers requesting Visitor packets. We also have had several calls for the Welcome Bags. We are low on “fillers” for the Welcome Bags, members can bring in something to advertise their business to the Chamber Office.
The Ambassadors are handling the Office with ease and I thank them for all they do. Carol Langer, Sally Hatch, Nancy Russell and Robin Bergman have been great this month! You may not see Robin in the Office but her “behind the scenes” work has helped us so much! We welcome Berney and Merna Ganshert to our Ambassador team!
Summer is quickly coming and I will be in the Hay Field soon plus Jerry & I will be getting our Home moved and set up at the Homestead. We are so excited to see this dream come true and have a TON of work to do and then get our house in town on the market. So the Chamber Office/Store needs help!! The Chamber Office MUST be open Monday through Saturday all summer. Volunteer Ambassadors are needed for either ½ days or full days. I have committed to Mondays and Wednesday mornings so I can carry on Chamber Business in a timely manner. We are in need of Ambassadors for Fridays and Saturdays and to fill in when one of the other Ambassadors cannot come in.
It is not a “labor intensive” job. Ambassadors answer the phone and keep the door open to members and visitors, answer questions and give directions and make sales. If you, or any of your friends would like to give a few hours to the Chamber meeting interesting people curious about our home and would like to become an Ambassador for the Gordon Chamber, please let Bea Lou know- 282.0730
Summer hours for the Chamber Office are:
Memorial Day to Labor Day – Monday – Friday 9 AM to 5 PM
Saturday’s – 9AM to close

Mike Shald called the May 5th chamber meeting to order at 5:30pm and went over the office report from April and Financial Report. Courtney Ostrander made the motion to accept both reports as read and Pastor Elsroth seconded. Motion passed.
The theme for The Sheridan County Fair Parade was discussed. There were several ideas. We decided on:
“UNITED WE STAND”
“Proudly Celebrating Our Diverse Cultures in Sheridan County”
Pastor Elsroth made a motion to accept the theme and June Dudek seconded. Motion passed.
We want to celebrate everyone’s different background and cultures. Be creative with the parade float ideas!
Rich Hoffman and Courtney Ostrander discussed the Pow-Wow that is being held this year in conjunction with the fair and rodeo on 7-24-15. There will be an Indian Village set up near the Grand Stand. More information will provided later as more is available.
A Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament will be held in Rushville July 18-21. We should send them a Welcome packet to at least the top 8 teams to encourage them to check out the area while they are here.
Willow Tree is September 12 and 13 this year.
Nebraska Life – Too late for 2015 ad for Fair and Rodeo but lets make sure we get one in for next year. Can we still get an ad in Rural Electric Nebraskan? (We are looking in to it.)
Journey to Western Nebraska Magazine – Can we update the ad in there? Yes we can. We also need to have them correct the typographical errors as well. Thank you Maureen Hess for noticing them.
Western Nebraska Development Network Meeting – This is being held in Gordon this year on Sept. 24. More details to come.
Harvest Festival – October 24 & 25 - The retail committee is meeting soon to start planning and is looking forward to another great year!
Maureen Hess made a motion that we adjourn. Jerry Saub seconded. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 6:30pm.
The next Meeting will be held Tuesday June 2nd at Sandhills Land and Management.
